The Importance of Choosing a DBS-Checked Pet Sitter

When it comes to leaving your beloved pets in the care of someone else, trust is paramount. You want a pet sitter who not only loves animals but is also reliable, professional, and safe. That’s why choosing a DBS-checked (Disclosure and Barring Service) pet sitter is so important. In this blog post, we’ll explore why a DBS check is crucial when selecting a pet sitter, and how it provides peace of mind for pet owners like you.

What is a DBS Check?

A DBS check is a background check performed by the UK government that helps ensure that individuals who work with vulnerable groups, including children and pets, are safe and trustworthy. This check reviews an individual’s criminal history and assesses whether they are suitable to work in environments where the safety of others is a priority.

For pet sitters, a DBS check ensures that they don’t have any criminal convictions related to animal cruelty, abuse, theft, or other offenses that would make them unsuitable for handling your pets and home

1. Ensuring Trust and Safety

Your pets are not just animals; they’re beloved members of your family. When you hire a pet sitter, you’re trusting them with the care of your pet, as well as the security of your home. A DBS-checked pet sitter gives you the reassurance that they have undergone rigorous background checks, ensuring that they are trustworthy, reliable, and safe.

Without a DBS check, you may be left wondering whether the person caring for your pet has the integrity you expect. With a DBS-checked pet sitter, you know that the person looking after your furry friends is fully vetted and holds the appropriate credentials.

2. Protecting Your Home and Property

A pet sitter isn’t just responsible for your pet – they’re also taking care of your home while you’re away. This includes tasks like bringing in the post, adjusting the lights, and ensuring everything is secure while you’re away. Choosing a DBS-checked pet sitter ensures that they have been screened for any history of theft, property damage, or any other criminal activity that could compromise the safety of your home.

You can rest easy knowing that your pet sitter is a trusted professional, not just in terms of caring for your pets but also in looking after your property and belongings.

3. Peace of Mind for You and Your Pets

One of the biggest concerns for pet owners when hiring a pet sitter is the emotional well-being of their pets. Pets are incredibly sensitive to changes in their environment and can become stressed when left with someone unfamiliar. Choosing a DBS-checked pet sitter ensures that your pet will be in safe hands with a responsible, vetted professional who is capable of managing any situation that may arise.

Knowing that your pet is cared for by someone who has been thoroughly background-checked gives you peace of mind, knowing that they’re not only being looked after but also safe from harm.

4. Legal Protection for Your Pet Sitting Service

Hiring a pet sitter who is DBS-checked also protects you legally. If a pet sitter is unqualified or lacks the necessary checks, you may be liable for any incidents or accidents that occur under their care. Choosing a DBS-checked pet sitter means you’re working with a professional who is compliant with industry standards, which can help avoid legal complications.

If something were to go wrong, such as your pet being injured, or an issue with your home arises, you have the confidence that your pet sitter is professionally vetted and you’re covered in case of any mishap.

5. Demonstrating Professionalism and Integrity

When you choose a DBS-checked pet sitter from a reputable service like Very Impawtent Pets, you’re selecting a business that takes professionalism and integrity seriously. Many reputable pet sitting services, such as Very Impawtent Pets, will proudly share their franchisee’s DBS-check status.
